- Preferred Vacuum types for carpet care:
A cleaner with a rotating brush or beater/brush which mechanically
loosens the soil so that the vacuum will remove it is preferred. For
loop pile carpets which may be damaged somewhat by the pulling of the
bush, a cleaner with suction only may be preferred. Top loading bags
are usually better than bottom loaders for maintaining good suction.
Paper bags are usually better than cloth to prevent particles leaking
back into the air. The height should be adjusted so that a vibrating
action will extend a few inches from the beater but not be so low that
the motor is slowed down. Vacuum across the traffic flow pattern
occasionally to help prevent matting of the pile.
- The care of your carpet should include:
Preventive maintenance with soil release agents such as Scotchguard. Regular Vacuuming Removal of stains and spills Overall cleaning on a regular basis
- Thinking about renting a
machine and doing it yourself ?

- Stain and Spot Removal:
It is helpful to have on hand household ammonia, vinegar, and a grease
remover such as Carbona, Energine or K2R. Food spills should be
removed by scraping with a dull knife or spoon and then blotting.
These may be followed by a dilute detergent solution (a half teaspoon
dishwashing liquid in a quart of water) and finally plain water, using
a blotting action to remove as much of the residual detergent as
possible.
- DO NOT USE: Bleaches, tile cleaners, mildew removers, oven cleaners,
or drain cleaners. They can cause irreparable damage. Acne
preparations contain benzoyl peroxide which can damage areas of the
carpet.
